The California trip (part A): The Yosemite Valley / by Matthias Le Dall

Half Dome looking over the Yosemite Valley

A good friend of mine and I had the opportunity to spend two weeks in California, and part of that trip included a 5-day road trip through the Californian back country. Part A of that trip consisted in spending two nights in the iconic Yosemite Valley (here is part B of the same trip)

The initial plan was to hit the giants of this valley: the Half-Dome, the Yosemite Falls, the Horse Tail, El Capitan, etc. However, we soon found out that snow was still plentiful by the time we arrived in the valley, in March. With slight bitterness, we resolved to cut our Yosemite stay short, though not before hiking the Upper Yosemite Falls.

The hike was short, but definitely not short of awe-inspiring moments. What I take away from the valley was a sense of majesty, manifesting itself through the imposing height and size of the rock giants that populate and watch over the valley like wise masters. This is a trip that will always stand in my memory as a life-changing moment, and will forever be grateful to my good friend for being part of it! It was a blast.
